Amanda Borstelmann's rebound goal helps Farmingdale rebound

The Dalers are on the rebound . . . literally and figuratively.
In a figurative sense, they are recovering from last season's heartbreaking end, when they earned the top seed in the girls soccer playoffs but were upset in overtime of a quarterfinal.
In a literal sense, the game-winning rebound goal that Amanda Borstelmann put in Monday propelled Farmingdale to a 3-2 win over Massapequa in Nassau Conference AA-II.
It's a rebound that will certainly help expedite the rebounding process.
"We definitely want to go further than last year," Borstelmann said. "So we're extremely motivated to get past that and go on to bigger and better things."
With the back-and-forth game tied at 2, Amanda Turturro sent in a corner kick that was headed off the crossbar by Christina Vargas. The ball bounced out to Borstelmann, who settled it and kicked it in to give Farmingdale a 3-2 lead with 26:34 remaining.
"I haven't really had many opportunities to score this year," Borstelmann said. "It was really exciting to get a winning goal in a big game like this."
Seven minutes into the second half, after a corner kick, Madison Doller knocked in a loose ball during a scrum in front of the net to put Farmingdale ahead 2-1.
Massapequa responded less than one minute later when Erica Modena one-touched a cross from Amanda Garrity into the net for her second goal.
Modena opened the scoring from the left wing off a feed from Rosie DiMartino to give Massapequa (2-1-1) a 1-0 lead just 5:03 into the game.
"Right now, we're at a point where we're still getting used to each other," Modena said. "After two or three more games, we'll start making progress. We'll be fine."
In the 25th minute, Maggie Fleming received a cross from Turturro and angled a shot to the corner of the net to tie the score for Farmingdale (2-0).
With the Dalers' ability to bounce back, from disappointing playoff losses and shots off the crossbar, they hope this season ends with nothing to rebound from.
"We're still strong, we practice hard, we're motivated," Farmingdale defender Alexis Panariello said. "We all have the mind-set that we want it all."
