1. ST. ANTHONY’S GIRLS SOCCER

The Friars (7-0) have won the last four CHSAA championships and look as strong as ever with a balanced team. Olivia Perez (three goals, four assists), Ashley Kozlowski (five goals, one assist) and Emily Riggins (three goals, two assists) lead the offense. St. Anthony’s has outscored opponents, 25-1.

2. NORTHPORT FIELD HOCKEY

The Tigers are the defending Long Island Class A champions and have outscored their opponents 48-2 to begin the season. Suffolk Player of the Year Sophia Bica has five goals and 12 assists, and Olivia McKenna has nine goals and 10 assists. Goalkeeper Natalie McKenna has shutouts in seven of eight wins.

3. BRENTWOOD BOYS SOCCER

Brentwood is 7-1 and leads Suffolk Class AA programs with a plus-30 goal differential. David Akpan has 14 goals — second-best in Suffolk. Aiden Benitez (seven goals) and Juan Gomez (6) are also dangerous for the defending (2019) state AA champs.

4. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The defending two-time Nassau Class AA champions are off to another undefeated start this season at 4-0 without dropping a set.

5. EASTPORT-SOUTH MANOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL

For the defending Suffolk Division II champion, the star of the week was coach Bill Kropp, who earned his 400th career victory with a 3-0 win over Sachem East on Sep. 28. Senior outside hitters Mark Porcelli and Jake DesLauriers have continued to be offensive forces for the Sharks.

6. CHAMINADE BOYS SOCCER

As usual, the Flyers play a top-notch, non-league, metro-area schedule. James Cooney and Thomas Herzog control the midfield, and Matt Canade has been solid in net for Chaminade.

7. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER

Massapequa’s offense has been rolling, with multiple goals in six of eight games and 31 goals on the season. Massapequa also had a little revenge over Syosset with a 1-0 victory in a rematch of last season’s Nassau Class AA final. Lia Howard, who leads the team with 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) scored the winning goal off an assist from Jess Lynskey.

8. GARDEN CITY FIELD HOCKEY

The defending Nassau Class A champions are off to a roaring start in Nassau Conference I at 5-0. Blakely Trapani leads Garden City with two goals and three assists in the first five games of the year. Garden City has outscored opponents, 13-1.

9. SACRED HEART GIRLS SWIMMING

The Spartans start their year next week after winning all 11 events at the CHSAA championships last season. Cavan Gormsen, Newsday’s CHSAA swimmer of the year last season, leads the way after setting CHSAA records in the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle as a sophomore. Gormsen will key a strong core, including Tess Howley and Makayla Pearce.

10. EAST ISLIP GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

They won at the Xavier Invitational at Ocean Breeze Track and Field facility on Staten Island with 41 points last weekend. Samantha Tucci ran 16:17.64 and Joy Petersen ran 16:46.43 on the 4k course.

On the cusp; Westhampton boys cross country, Northport boys volleyball.
