High school roundup: Baseball, softball, lacrosse and more early-season highlights

Logan Walsh allowed two hits in six scoreless innings, striking out six and also singled home Brady McGowan with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Eastport-South Manor defeat West Islip, 1-0, in its non-league baseball opener on Friday.
Thomas Gargiulo went 2-for-2 with a double and Noah Kirwin earned the save by striking out the side in the top of the seventh.
THURSDAY’S GAMES
Plainedge 2, Division 0: Aiden McCarthy had an RBI double in the top of the seventh to break a scoreless tie for Plainedge in non-league. McCarthy also struck out five and allowed one hit in two innings of relief to earn the win. Bobby Wescott went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Taylor Nitsch allowed four hits and one walk in five shutout innings, striking out five.
Carle Place 7, Friends Academy 6: Ryan Kang singled home Roman Sandonao with a walk-off hit for Carle Place in Nassau B. Kang went 2-for-4 and Tyler Marquart went 2-for-3 with three runs.
SOFTBALL
Bellport 12, East Hampton 11: Sophia Morroun drove in Rosie Padilla for a walk-off single in the seventh inning for Bellport in non-league. Morroun went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Padilla went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Gianna Brown went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs.
West Islip 5, Smithtown West 4: Emily Bouros, who went 2-for-3, struck out eight batters to earn the win for West Islip in Suffolk IV. Nicole Grieco went 2-for-2 with a two-run single, Alex Gangloff had a double and two runs and Juliet Aguanno went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI single.
East Islip 3, Deer Park 2: Cate Ropiak walked one in a four-hitter, striking out six for East Islip in Suffolk IV. Sophia Corso scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to break a tie at 2 for East Islip. Reagan O’Hara had a tying double to drive in Delaney Crowe to tie the score at 2 in the third inning for East Islip. Kate Vessalico went 2-for-3.

Great Neck South 12, Great Neck North 3: Hannah Joy had 18 strikeouts for Great Neck South in Nassau VIII.
Glen Cove 5, Mepham 3: Brook Simmons had 17 strikeouts for Glen Cove in Nassau II.
BOYS LACROSSE
Northport 11, Huntington 10: Jack Deliberti scored four goals, including the winner in overtime for Northport on Thursday in Suffolk I. Logan Cash had three goals and three assists.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lynbrook 6, Bethpage 5: Sophie Deifel scored the winning goal off a feed from Brooke Mazzei with 2:45 left in double overtime for Lynbrook in Nassau II. Deifel scored two goals and Mazzei had three.

Long Beach 11, Syosset 8: Delaney Chernoff, who had a goal and three assists, recorded her 200th varsity point for Long Beach in Nassau I. Skylar Kilfeather and Maya Kallelis each scored three goals.
Valley Stream District 7, Herricks 6: Bella Rush scored the winning goal with 1:27 left in the fourth quarter to break a tie at 6 for Valley Stream District in Nassau IV.
Smithtown West 12, Sayville 10: Kate Theofield had five goals and seven draw controls and Kaitlyn Mennella had three goals for Smithtown West in Suffolk II.
Kings Park 10, Miller Place 9: Emily Clemens scored four goals and Sophia Russo had three for Kings Park.

THURSDAY’S GAMES
Lynbrook 14, Long Beach 12: Quarterback Aliye Simsek had the winning 60-yard touchdown run with 12 seconds left for Lynbrook (1-2) in Nassau B/C. Simsek rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 106 yards. Sophie Deifel had a sack and five pass breakups and Olivia Pomponio had an interception. Samaiyah Wardana had a 40-yard touchdown run to give Long Beach a 12-7 lead with 37 seconds left. The two-point conversion was stopped just short of the goal line by Penelope Yaker.
Half Hollow Hills 61, Copiague 6: Samantha Heyman completed 15 of 18 passes for 230 yards and five touchdowns for Half Hollow Hills in Suffolk I. She had six carries for 50 yards and a touchdown, Zoe Franks had six receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown and Marisa Dominic had three receptions for 30 yards and two touchdowns.
GIRLS BADMINTON
Patchogue-Medford 5, Brentwood 4: Allison Guallpa defeated Jocelyn Diaz, 21-16, 21-17, at second singles in the deciding match for Patchogue-Medford in Suffolk I.
BOYS TENNIS
Ward Melville 4, Bayport-Blue Point 3: Eric Liu defeated Anthony Latino, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, at third singles in the deciding match for Ward Melville in Suffolk III.
