Newsday's top 50 Long Island boys volleyball players to start the 2024 season
Newsday's annual look at the top Long Island high school boys volleyball players as the fall season gets underway, listed in alphabetical order. (All statistics are from last season unless otherwise noted.)
Noah Abdur-Rasheed, Patchogue-Medford, OH, Jr.
After totaling 93 kills and 11 blocks as a sophomore, Abdur-Rasheed will become the focal point of the Raiders’ offense.
Jordan Cador, Half Hollow Hills, MB, Sr.
He racked up 117 kills and 36 blocks last season.
Jack Cain, Eastport-South Manor, MB, Jr.
Cain totaled 97 kills, 33 blocks and 53 digs to help Eastport-South Manor to the Suffolk Division II final.
Josh Chen, Jericho, OH, Sr.
Chen will be more involved at the net after totaling 143 kills as a junior, with 22 of them coming in the Nassau Division II final.
Logan Coady, Massapequa, OH, Jr.
The 6-5 outside hitter is expected to make a huge leap as a focal point in Massapequa’s offense. He had 59 kills and 12 aces as a sophomore.
Joe D’Agostino, Whitman, S, Sr.
The Newsday All-Long Island second team selection racked up 425 assists, 35 aces, 40 kills, 12 blocks and 80 digs.
Mark de Prado, Valley Stream North, OH, Jr.
He totaled 160 kills, 47 aces and 140 digs as a sophomore.
Ayden DesLauriers, Eastport-South Manor, OH, Sr.
The Newsday All-Long Island first team selection had 425 kills, 50 aces, 12 blocks and 207 digs last season. He’ll play at Loyola Chicago next fall.
James Domozych, Connetquot, OH, Sr:
A four-year varsity player, Domozych had 98 kills and 114 digs last year.
Andrew Dragos, Eastport-South Manor, OH, Jr.
Dragos racked up 131 kills, 148 digs and eight blocks. He pairs with Ayden DesLauriers to form a powerful duo.
Kyle Fagan, Ward Melville, OH, Sr.
Newsday’s Player of the Year totaled 429 kills, 35 aces, 25 blocks, 213 digs and 6 assists as he led Ward Melville to its first Long Island title. He will play at Penn State.
Matthew Fitzgerald, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, OH, Jr.
He totaled 80 kills, 50 digs, eight blocks and eight aces in six games as a sophomore.
Cameron Giordano, Westhampton, S, Jr.
Giordano is a highly talented setter and well-rounded player who will take on a big role.
Zareb Gonzalez, Bay Shore, OH, Jr.
Gonzales flies around the gym and is expected to have a breakout season.
Josh Grossfeld, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, S, Sr.
Grossfeld totaled 309 assists, 49 kills, 14 blocks, 66 digs and 15 aces..
Niall Haughney, Bay Shore, MB, Jr.
Haughney stands at 6-8 and totaled 41 blocks as a sophomore.
Alek Ignjatovic, Calhoun, MB, Jr.
The 6-3 middle totaled 82 kills and 60 blocks to help Calhoun to a second straight Nassau Division II title.
Aaron Kiefer, Westhampton, L, Sr.
He totaled 205 digs and 18 aces and posted a 2.3 serve receive rating to help Westhampton reach the Division II state championship match.
Joseph Kim, Roslyn, OH, Soph.
Kim played three different positions and started every game. He’s expected to have a strong year on the outside.
Gannon Klimuszko, West Islip, OH, Sr.
He totaled 57 kills and 65 digs before an ankle injury derailed his season. He’ll be an important part of West Islip’s attack.
Trevor Kolar, Whitman, OH, Sr.
Kolar totaled 145 kills, 67 digs, 11 aces and four blocks.
Bryan Kuhl, Sachem North, L/S, Soph.
Kuhl had a strong freshman year at libero and will see time as a setter this season.
Jimmy Li, Great Neck North, OH/DS, Sr.
He’ll take on a bigger role after collecting 115 digs last season.
Landon Luttrell, Hicksville, OH, Soph.
A high-flier with a ton of power, Luttrell is known for his ability to put the ball away.
Kent Malaby, Half Hollow Hills, OPP, Sr.
He missed a chunk of last season with an injury, but he’s a jack-of-all-trades when healthy.
Ryan McKeon, Sachem East, S, Sr.
A talented setter who does a little bit of everything, McKeon totaled 423 assists, 11 kills, 20 aces, 66 digs and 10 blocks last season.
Shaun Mischler, Ward Melville, OH, Sr.
He totaled 126 kills, 11 blocks, 20 aces and 115 digs opposite Kyle Fagan last season. With both returning, Ward Melville will look to return to the state tournament.
Matthew Mitko, Jericho, OH, Sr.
The Newsday All-Long Island second teamer totaled 214 kills, 175 digs and 20 aces to lead Jericho to the Nassau Division II final.
Sam Morreale, Sachem North, OH, Sr.
Morreale totaled 358 kills, 110 digs, 44 aces and posted a .311 hitting percentage. The 6-4 senior was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team.
Jacob Nasrolai, Great Neck North, RS/OH, Sr.
He racked up 165 kills and 65 blocks.
Chase Ngai, Jericho, S/OPP, Sr.
He totaled 95 kills, 392 assists, 120 digs and 26 aces.
Teague Nolan, East Islip, OH, Jr.
Nolan had 116 kills, 132 digs, four blocks and four assists.
Brennan O’Connor, Connetquot, MB, Sr.
The 6-4 middle totaled 130 kills and 47 blocks. He will be even more involved this year.
John Pericolosi, South Side, S/OPP, Jr.
He totaled 100 kills, 280 assists and 25 aces.
Nick Ragonese, Ward Melville, L, Sr.
He totaled 146 digs and 14 aces and posted a 2.25 serve receive rating.
Johncarlo Rivera, Freeport, MB, Sr.
He totaled 162 kills, 52 blocks, 98 digs and 22 aces as a junior.
Arkaidiy Rivkin, Syosset, OH, Jr.
Rivkin stands at 6-3 and possesses sound defense skills and a great swing.
Lucas Rogers, Calhoun, S, Sr.
A strong passer, Rogers racked up 403 assists.
John Roggendorf, Great Neck South, MH, Sr.
He clogs up the middle standing at 6-6. Roggendorf had 116 kills and 87 blocks.
Leo Rohman, Levittown District, OH, Jr.
He totaled 127 kills, 17 aces and 13 blocks.
Tyler Rooi, Sachem East, OH, Sr.
He tallied 184 kills, 21 aces, 81 digs and five blocks.
Prince Rutledge, East Islip, MH, Sr.
After playing the right side last year, Rutledge will bring his size and power to the middle.
Joe Smith, Patchogue-Medford, L, Jr.
A shifty athlete with great instincts, Smith is expected to emerge as one of the top liberos in Suffolk.
Jake Spring, Sachem North, OH, Sr.
Spring pairs with Sam Morreale to form a strong duo on the outside. He had 180 kills with a .251 hitting percentage, 74 digs and 19 aces.
Jack Stanley, Massapequa, MB, Jr.
Stanley posted a .400 attack percentage, and his 6-6 frame makes him an imposing figure for opposing hitters at the net.
Zach Thomas, West Islip, OH, Jr.
He totaled 178 kills and led West Islip with 181 digs as the Lions reached the Suffolk Division I final.
Dylan Wilkinson, Connetquot, S, Sr.
Wilkinson racked up a whopping 617 assists and 32 aces.
Ian Yegidis, Calhoun, L, Soph.
Yegidis totaled 102 digs as a freshman in what was a senior-laden back row defense.
Peter Zhang, Great Neck South, L/S/OPP, Jr.
Zhang totaled 286 digs, 21 kills, 16 assists and 15 aces.
Erik Ziemblicki, Valley Stream North, S, Sr
He had 600 assists, 50 aces, 23 kills and seven blocks.
