It was bound to happen eventually.

Royal Caribbean is now offering unlimited alcohol packages on three of its ships based overseas (Independence of the Seas, Legend of the Seas and Grandeur of the Seas).

The basic package, priced at $29 a person a day, includes beer and house wines.

For $10 a day more, passengers can add mixed drinks to their package, too.

The "premium" plan, at $49 a day, includes beer, wines priced up to $10 a glass and top-shelf liquor.

All packages include a 25 percent discount on higher-priced wines (including bottles) and liquor. Packages are not yet available on the cruise line's U.S.-based ships, but domestic cruisers on Celebrity (also owned by Royal Caribbean) can opt for drink packages that include alcohol, priced from $39 a day.
