Two luxury car brands have gone their separate ways in Plainview, creating the only stand-alone Ferrari dealership from Long Island to New York City.
Since 2010, Ferrari and Maserati, which used to be sister brands, were sold at 65 South Service Rd. at a dealership called Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island, while their service center was about 1,000 feet away at 105 South Service Rd.
Now, the two brands have been split, with Ferrari and its service center at 65 South Service Rd., after a $10 million renovation that started about a year and half ago, said Bill Riedel, general manager of Ferrari of Long Island. Maserati's sales and service operations will be at 105 South Service Rd., and the renovation of that building is expected to start in early July, he said.
The Ferrari dealership held a grand opening event Wednesday but neither dealership closed for the relocation or renovations.
The split will allow for better customer service, said Todd Grieco, New York Region vice president of the McGovern Automotive Group, a Boston-based company that owns 32 auto dealerships in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey.
“Both of these brands are iconic. And you know the thought process was they deserve their own facilities. And by getting [sales and service] under one roof, what happens is it allows us to deliver a better client experience, because unfortunately, when buildings are separated, it’s like the oldest story known to mankind, there are communication issues,” he said.
Clients also didn’t feel secure leaving their vehicles outside at the dealership overnight, in part because of the risk of weather damage, so the new service center now allows for indoor storage, Grieco said.

The renovations at the two-story Ferrari dealership included the addition of a large service lane, a 12-bay service center, a parts department, a rooftop parking deck, as well as new equipment and furniture, Riedel said. The dealership’s size was more than doubled, from 22,000 square feet to 49,000 square feet, he said. Maserati will have the same footprint but its space will be reconfigured.
There are about 40 employees in total at the two dealerships, Riedel said.
Most new Ferraris are custom built to customer specifications and must be ordered in advance, Riedel said.
McGovern Automotive Group, led by Matt McGovern, bought Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island from Experience Auto Group in 2021. McGovern also bought Porsche South Shore in Freeport in 2020.

The Plainview Ferrari dealership is the only one on Long Island, and although there are none in New York City, the Ferrari company opened a Tailor Made Center in Manhattan in 2019. The center is a showroom where customers can customize the Ferraris they plan to buy from dealerships.
Aside from the Plainview dealership, the closest place to buy a Ferrari is in Greenwich, Connecticut.
There is one other Maserati dealership on Long Island, Champion Maserati, in Great Neck.
Ferrari and Maserati brands used to be owned by Italy-based Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V.
In 2016, Ferrari was spun off on its own. In 2019, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V merged with French automaker Peugeot S.A., forming Stellantis, whose car brands include Maserati.
