Two fires broke out within an hour of each other in separate incidents on Long Island on Thursday morning.

At about 9:53 a.m., a fire broke out at a Garden City home on Meadow Street between College Place and Tremont Street, said James Hickman, assistant chief Nassau County fire marshal.

All occupants of the home escaped safely, but the building is unlivable, he said.

Seven fire departments responded to the scene, and several firefighters suffered minor injuries but none was not taken to a hospital.

Hickman said the fire started in an attached garage and spread to the rest of the house. Fire departments put out the fire in one hour, he said.

Around 11:40 a.m., the operator of a 2024 box truck was making a delivery of meat and fish to a restaurant in the back of Elwood Shopping Center, at 1932 Jericho Turnpike in Dix Hills.

After the driver exited the truck and made the delivery, the truck went into regeneration mode, a self-cleaning process that occurs when soot builds up, and caused the truck to catch fire, said the Dix Hills Fire Department.

The department put out the fire in about 20 minutes. No one was injured, and the truck did not suffer structure damage, the department said.
