Fire at Namiro Sushi temporarily closes the Southampton restaurant

A Southampton restaurant is temporarily closed after a fire broke out early Friday.

Around 12:24 a.m., the Southampton Fire Department was notified of a fire at Namiro Sushi,  76 Jobs Lane, and arrived to find heavy smoke.

Crews entered the building and found fire in a wall in the kitchen area, Southampton Fire Department spokesperson Chris Brenner said.

About 40 firefighters with mutual aid from Hampton Bays Rapid Intervention Team, North Sea, and Bridgehampton fire departments put out the fire in about 30 minutes and stayed on scene for about two hours, Brenner said.

No injuries were reported.

Brenner described the restaurant as being in a busy area and near other businesses like the Southampton Publick House and across from Agawam Park.

"Last night we experienced a fire at Namiro," a statement posted to the restaurant's Instagram account said on Friday afternoon. "Thanks to the quick response from the Southampton Village Police, Fire Department, and Volunteer Ambulance, it was contained to one area. We’re so grateful for their efforts — and thankful everyone is safe. We’ll be back open soon."

Aside from smoke, no nearby buildings were affected by the fire, Brenner said, although two neighboring businesses had yellow police tape on their entrances mid-Friday morning.

Police tape also stretched across Namiro Sushi's doors, but from the outside, there appeared to be minimal damage.

Brenner said the restaurant "will be able to rebuild" as it is "not a total loss" due to the quick action of the fire department.

The restaurant fire occurred about one day after two Southampton Town police officers were treated for smoke inhalation after helping an elderly man who suffered minor burns escape from a Hampton Bays house fire.

"It has been a very busy couple of days," Brenner said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Namiro Sushi opened in May, offering cuts of sushi, signature rolls and cooked entrees like lobster udon ramen, lamb chops with mustard miso and Korean fried chicken.
