Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Wyandanch, Suffolk police say

A pedestrian has been killed in another hit-and-run crash, this time Friday evening in Wyandanch, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The man's name wasn’t disclosed pending the official notification of his family, the department wrote in a news release.
The crash happened about 7:29 p.m. on eastbound Wyandanch Avenue, west of Mount Avenue, when the victim was struck by a driver who kept going eastbound toward Mount Avenue, the release said. The victim was brought to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where he was declared dead.
The case was being investigated by the police department’s Major Case Unit. No other information was publicly disclosed, including the pedestrian’s precise location when struck and whether the police have identified a suspect.
The department’s press office said late Saturday night that no update was available.
Last year, 287 pedestrians were killed in crashes in New York, including 34 in Suffolk and 23 in Nassau, according to preliminary statistics from the University at Albany-based Institute for Traffic Safety Management & Research.
