A new Old Navy location is expected to open in Rocky Point this year.

The retailer, which is owned by Gap Inc., filed a site plan application with the town that was approved unanimously by the Brookhaven Town Board in early May, according to a board resolution.

Under the plan, Old Navy would occupy a 8,500-square-foot space at Rocky Point Plaza, located at the corner of Rocky Point-Yaphank Road and Route 25A, town officials said.

"There’s a lot of reasons to go to that center, anyway," said Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner, who represents Rocky Point. "Old Navy is another nice complement. Any time there’s variety for residents we’re happy."

Bonner, who sponsored the plan for the new Old Navy and introduced the board motion to approve it, said work on the space has already begun. She believes the store may be looking to open by the end of the summer, given help wanted flyers the retailer has posted on the storefront.

However, neither the board resolution nor site application give a definitive opening date. Gap officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Other tenants of the shopping center include Kohl’s, arts and crafts retailer Michael’s, Walgreens and a Philly Pretzel Factory.

The new Old Navy store would fill space left vacant by a former Famous Footwear and GameStop store, according to board records.

Old Navy currently has 15 open locations in Nassau and Suffolk counties, according to the retailer’s online store locator tool.

Last month, Gap Inc., which also owns Banana Republic, saw its stock value tumble 20.2% after disclosing to investors that tariffs on Chinese imports could add as much as $300 million to its costs for the year. In recent years, the retailer has opened Old Navy locations in Farmingdale and in Shirley.
