WHO Claudia Kim

THE MOVIE “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” sequel

THE DEAL The actress from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is among the newly announced cast members for the upcoming sequel to last year’s “Harry Potter” spinoff, Deadline reports. The as-yet untitled film will also star William Nadylam as the wizard Yusuf Kama; Ingvar Sigurdsson as bounty hunter Grimmson; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, who operates a wizarding circus; and Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy, head of MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA). Filming began earlier this week at Studios Leavesden outside London.

THE MOVIE “Transformers: The Last Knight”

THE DEAL The fifth film in Hasbro’s robot-action franchise earned $30 million last weekend in China, a 75 percent drop from its opening numbers there, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Though initially predicted to earn a total of $400 million in the Middle Kingdom, “The Last Knight” now looks more likely to make about $250 million, a major disappointment for Paramount and the three Chinese companies with equity stakes in the movie. “The Last Knight,” starring Mark Wahlberg, was widely panned by Western critics and is said to mark Michael Bay’s last time as director on the franchise. At press time, its 10-day total in China stood at $198 million.

THE MOVIE “The Midwife”

THE DEAL This French comedy-drama tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a midwife (Catherine Frot) and her late father’s mistress (Catherine Deneuve). The film, already playing in Manhattan, screens locally next week as part of the Gold Coast Cinema series ahead of its official Long Island release date of Aug. 4.
