R.I.P. Nate Dogg (1969-2011)
Rapper Nate Dogg, best known for forging a combination of singing and rapping back in the days of gangsta rap, died last night, according to his family.
The Long Beach, Calif., rapper collaborated with Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur and was seen as an important part of the West Coast rap sound of the early '90s, especially after "Regulate" hit No. 2 on the pop charts in 1994.
"We lost a true legend in hip-hop and R&B," Snoop Dogg Tweeted early this morning. "One of my best friends and a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at Poly High where we met."
No cause of death was given for Nate Dogg, who had suffered strokes in 2007 and 2008.
He will be missed.
