Meet the stars who will play 'Celebrity Jeopardy!'
Ray Romano, Patton Oswalt, Constance Wu, Michael Cera and Simu Liu are among the stars who will compete on the first prime-time edition of "Celebrity Jeopardy!," premiering Sept. 25 on ABC.
"Your favorite quiz show has achieved celebrity status!" the social media for the new show announced on Tuesday. "Get ready to see some familiar faces in the very first season of #CelebrityJeopardy!"
"It's the OG 'Jeopardy!' with celebrities!" enthused previously announced host Mayim Bialik, 46, "The Big Bang Theory Star" and the rotating host of regular "Jeopardy!," speaking from the quiz show's set in an accompanying video.
After the celebrities' names flash on-screen — Liu ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," "Kim's Convenience"); Wu ("Fresh Off the Boat," "Crazy Rich Asians"); Cera ("Arrested Development," "Life & Beth"); B.J. Novak ("The Office"); Chicago Sky WNBA star Candace Parker; comic Iliza Shlesinger; Romano ("Everybody Loves Raymond," "Made for Love"); Aisha Tyler ("Archer," "Criminal Minds"); and actor-comedian Oswalt ("The Sandman") — Bialik quips, "Let's hope they've been reading more than screenplays."
"This is the one where you guess letters, right?" joked Oswalt, 53, on Twitter, alluding to the game show "Wheel of Fortune." In a comment, Sea Cliff-raised Emmy Award-nominee Michael McKean ("Better Call Saul"), 74, who had competed on a "Jeopardy!" celebrity edition in 1999, evoked the catchphrase of the game show "Press Your Luck": "Big bucks! No whammies!"
A celebrity-themed week of "Jeopardy!" was a staple most years from 1992 to 2006, beginning with the Oct. 26, 1992, episode featuring Carol Burnett, Regis Philbin and "Knots Landing" star Donna Mills. Following a long lull, it returned in 2015 for a week with Neil Flynn, Josh Gad, Vince Gilligan, Penn Jillette, astronaut Mark Kelly (now a senator of Arizona), Debra Messing, Zachary Quinto, Ginger Zee and others.
