The Simon Kidgits Club back-to-school event on Long Island

The Simon Kidgits Club is hosting its annual, free back-to-school event at Smith Haven Mall from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Center Court.

Kids will make crafts such as creating bug houses and photo games. Auntie Anne’s pretzels will provide free samples. There’ll be a bounce house, and kids will be able to watch “Epic,” an animated feature that debuts on DVD Aug. 20 with the voices of Colin Farrell and Amanda Seyfried. It’s about a teen transported to a magical world.

At the same time, mall retailers will help with back-to-school needs. Payless will conduct shoe sizings, Sears Optical will offer complimentary vision screenings and Barnes & Noble will present story time with costumed character The Cat in the Hat.
