Long Island's first 'SantaCon'

No longer is either working at the mall or being Kris Kringle himself need be the only reasons to don a large red coat and massive belt buckle in December as the Bayville Winter Wonderland and Shipwreck Tavern in Bayville are hosting Long Island's first “SantaCon” on Saturday, Dec. 17. From noon-10 p.m., all (over 21) are invited to arrive dressed as Old Saint Nick himself -- and in return receive a discounted dinner (8  to 10 p.m. at Shipwreck Tavern) plus half-price drinks all day.

There are some “Clauses,” however, by which all partying participates must abide:

KIDS IN THE HOUSE

The most important: There will be children in attendance at the Wonderland (taking place at Bayville Adventure Park, features holiday family attractions), so be pleasant and smiling when in their presence. Gift-giving is also appropriate, but make sure the kids receive child-friendly items. (“Ho-ho-hos” are highly recommended.)

PREPARE PROPERLY

Guests are reminded that there will be both warm and cold moments, so dress in layers that can be adjusted. Furthermore, this is a cash-only adventure, and because adult beverages will be available, all are asked to arrange transportation (as in NOT drinking and driving).

DRESS TO IMPRESS

A simple Santa hat will not score patrons the food and/or drink deals; full festive regalia is required – although full-blown and creative interpretations are also acceptable, as are extensive reindeer and elf attire.
