Raising Cane's may not be coming to Long Island anytime soon, but the beloved chicken finger chain is doing the next best thing, at least for LIRR commuters: Its sixth New York City location opened Thursday morning inside the Long Island Rail Road concourse at Penn Station.

The fast-casual chain will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to midnight. And unlike some other businesses in the thoroughfare, the space has several booths, tables and stools where patrons can sit to enjoy their meal.

The growing international chain founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, recently backed out of three proposed locations for Long Island. Another location at a 5½ acre redevelopment project in Carle Place, as well as a new prospect in Bay Shore, have been delayed until 2026.

The chain, which now claims more than 780 restaurants, has a devoted following but is also known for creating traffic snarls as long lines of cars spill out from parking lots (although this should not be a problem at Penn Station). Raising Cane's opened its first New York City location in Times Square last June, and is planning a seventh spot in Flushing, Queens, in July.

Raising Cane's, 1 Penn Plaza, Suite 134, New York, 929-458-3704, raisingcanes.com. Open 9 a.m. to midnight daily.
