Seaford Palace Diner reopens with Greek flair

After a brief spell as the Friendly Greek, the ornate silver edifice on the south side of Merrick Road has been returned to its former identity as Seaford Palace Diner, with a gleaming interior and a menu heavy with Hellenic dishes.

New owner Teddy Calligeros, who once ran Huntington’s Golden Dolphin Diner, said he wanted to bring back a diner that had once been run by family friends. (The most recent incarnation closed in 2015). “We love this business. We were born into this business,” he said.

The encyclopedic menu cinches together all the diner standards, such as pancakes and three-egg omelets at breakfast — as well as house-made Greek yogurt with honey, fruit or granola ($4.25-7) — and burgers, sandwiches, pastas, broiled seafood and chunky salads at lunch and dinner.

Greek touches are many, including grilled octopus, saganaki and the requisite gyros, spinach pie and dolmades, aka stuffed grape leaves. ($9-20).

Gluten-free bread, pancakes, French toast, muffins and pasta are on hand for those whose avoid grains.

Seaford Palace Diner is opens daily at 7 a.m. and stays open until 11 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, it’s open until midnight.
