BACKGROUND

  • Palumbo, 54, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He is seeking his third term in the Senate since being elected in 2020. He served in the State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. 
  • He is a former Suffolk County assistant district attorney.
  • Palumbo graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and St. John’s University School of Law.

ISSUES

  • Palumbo said he wants to repeal the state bail law and give judges more discretion to set bail and modify a law that imposes tight deadlines on prosecutors for sharing information with defense attorneys.
  • He said he would cut taxes and incentivize building more housing. He opposes reductions in aid to local school districts.
  • Palumbo said he supports the Suffolk County water referendum for improving septic and sewer systems, and said improvements and more public education are needed for battery storage facilities as their use expands.
