BACKGROUND

  • Anker, 60, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She served 13 years in the Suffolk County Legislature and was term-limited in 2023. 
  • Since leaving the county legislature, Anker has worked as an assistant commissioner at the county Board of Elections. Before getting elected to the legislature, she was energy director for the Town of Brookhaven. 
  • Anker has a bachelor’s degree from St. Leo’s University in Florida. 

ISSUES

  • Anker said that as a Democrat in a Democrat-led State Senate, she is better positioned than a Republican to bring in more funding for the district’s schools, open-space projects and mental health and anti-addiction programs.
  • She said housing growth is a key to keeping Long Island prosperous and that state leaders need to work with municipalities to grow housing.
  • Anker said she supports expanding clean-water infrastructure and farmland preservation, and said the state should do more to monitor sand mines and illegal trash/waste dumping.
