BACKGROUND

• Solages, 39, of Elmont, is running on the Democratic and Working Families party lines in the general election. She was elected in 2012 and is the deputy majority leader of the New York State Assembly. 
• Solages is the first person of Haitian descent to be elected to the State Legislature, and has advocated for health equity, maternal care and environmental justice. 
• Her volunteer work includes mobilizing community efforts through the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus. 

ISSUES

• Solages said she is dedicated to improving access to comprehensive maternal care, from prenatal services to postpartum support, to reduce preventable deaths and improve health outcomes for families.
• Solages said property tax relief continues to be a priority. She helped enact an enhanced senior property tax exemption to alleviate the burden on homeowners, particularly seniors on fixed incomes.
• Solages said greater investment in the health care workforce is needed, and she has advocated for initiatives and legislation that help train, support and expand the health care workforce.
