Ben & Jerry's co-founder to appear in Huntington
One scoop of the famous Ben & Jerry's ice cream duo is making a stop in Huntington Friday.
Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of the Vermont-based company, appears at 3 p.m. at Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop, 298 Main St.
"He wants to meet our customers," shop owner Eileen Kelly said. "He's going to his sixth-grade class reunion in Merrick and he wants to stop by. Isn't that great?"
Kelly said she expects Greenfield to be in the shop for about an hour.
Greenfield and Ben Cohen, the other half of the ice-cream dream team, both attended Sanford H. Calhoun High School in Merrick.
The two remained friends after high school, and in 1978 opened an ice-cream parlor in a refurbished gas station in Burlington, Vt., with about $12,000 in startup money.
Greenfield, a former lab technician, and Cohen trained themselves in the art of ice cream making. Both began by getting As in a $5 correspondence course in ice cream making offered by Penn State.
