Suffolk County police discovered the body of an apparent drowning victim in the Fire Island National Seashore Tuesday morning, police said.

The body of an elderly man was found floating on the bay side of the seashore in Shirley at 10:53 a.m., police said, adding that it appears the man drowned.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family. Suffolk police homicide detectives are investigating.

It was the second apparent drowning in Suffolk’s waterways in as many days.

On Sunday, the body of Michael Petruzzo, 64, who police said was homeless and an apparent drowning victim, was pulled from the water by beachgoers at the outer beach in Smith Point County Park in Shirley about 4 p.m., police said. He was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
