One driver was killed and another seriously injured in an early morning head-on collision that closed Route 112 in Patchogue for hours Tuesday, Suffolk County police said.
Police said Paul McDade, 44, of Brookhaven, was driving a Hyundai Elantra south on Route 112 at about 6 a.m. when his car crossed into the northbound lane - and struck a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Javier Lopez, 31, of Park Avenue, Medford.
Both men were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Patchogue, where McDade was pronounced dead, police said.
Lopez was treated for arm, leg and facial injuries.
The road was closed between Cleveland Avenue and Columbia Street. Police said detectives are still investigating details of the crash.
