An Amityville man was killed and two others injured in a two-car crash Saturday morning on Montauk Highway in Copiague, Suffolk County police said.

Harold Deters, 79, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala west on Montauk Highway when he crossed into the opposite lane and struck an eastbound 2013 Ford Escape at the highway's intersection with South Emerson Avenue around 5:40 a.m., Suffolk police said in a news release.

Deters was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

The 66-year-old driver of the Ford and her 42-year-old passenger were also taken to same hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Suffolk police said. The agency identified them as West Babylon residents.

The crash closed Montauk Highway between Wilson Avenue and Dawes Avenue until just after noon on Saturday, police said.

Suffolk police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
