Son of billionaire investor George Soros reportedly hurt in Southampton boating accident

Hedge fund billionaire George Soros' son was hurt in a boating accident in Southampton on Sunday, according to published reports.

Southampton Town Police said in a news release that Gregory Soros, 28, of Shelter Island, was one of three people aboard the 40-foot pleasure boat Satisfactory when it struck a sandbar in Shinnecock Bay about 6:30 p.m.

Soros was transported to Southampton Hospital with rib injuries and a possible head injury. He reportedly lost consciousness after the accident, police said.

The New York Post identified Soros as the son of George Soros, the prominent philanthropist and Democratic donor.

Southampton Town Bay Constables Danielle McManus and Nicholas DiBari responded to the crash along with U.S. Coast Guard personnel, police said.

Gregory Nissen, 34, of Greenport, the boat's captain, was also transported to Southampton Hospital with a possible head injury. He declined to comment when reached by phone Tuesday.

Nissen told constables at the scene that people aboard the boat were injured when the vessel abruptly stopped, according to police.

Courtney Sherwood, 29, of Manhattan, was also aboard the boat but suffered no injuries, police said.

Police said the boat was towed to a marina.

A Southampton Town Police sergeant said further information on the crash was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.

George Soros, 84, has a net worth of $24 billion, according to Forbes.
