Sarah Goode's funeral set; mortuary to cover expenses

Funeral arrangements have been finalized for the young Medford mother whose body was found Thursday in a wooded area by friends and family who had searched for her since she disappeared more than a week ago.

Viewings for Sarah P. Goode will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mangano Funeral Home, 640 Middle Country Rd., Middle Island, a spokesman said.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at St. Sylvester Roman Catholic Church, 68 Ohio Ave., Medford, with burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram.

Mangano Funeral Home has agreed to cover the expenses, a spokesman said.

Goode, 21, a Patchogue medical technician from Medford with a 4-year-old daughter, was last seen about 1 a.m. June 7 at a friend's house in Shirley, police said. Her car was found two days later on a two-lane street in a residential neighborhood next to a large wooded area in Medford.

The cause and manner of death have not been disclosed, but a police source said Goode was the victim of a homicide.

Friends said Goode's daughter has been in the care of her family. An online memorial fund set up in Goode's name on the charity fundraising website Crowdrise had taken in more than $30,000 by 4 p.m. Sunday. The site said the money from the fundraiser would go to care for Goode's daughter.

"We are truly overwhelmed by and thankful for the outpouring of support from family, friends, and everyone near and far . . . even those we have never met," Goode's sister Elizabeth DeMuria wrote in an email from the family. "It is amazing how people can come together in times of tragedy. It brings us comfort that we can find hope in such good hearted people -- as that is how Sarah was."

She said the family also thanked the many donors to the fundraising site, the funeral home, a floral shop that provided memorial flowers and well-wishers who have reached out to relatives.

"The family is completely devastated and distraught. It's not anything we have ever been through or wanted to go through," said Goode's aunt, Patricia Urizzo. "There's a murderer on the loose in Medford. That's really the bottom line. And we hope to God that the person gets found."

Suffolk police said Sunday they do not have any updates on the case and are continuing their investigation.
