Open all night: 10 late-night NYC businesses you wouldn't expect to find

New York is the city that never sleeps when it comes to finding food or a place to drink. But finding a place to get a haircut, fix a chipped tooth or fresh baked cookies can be difficult for night owls and workers who burn the midnight oil.

For these nocturnal New Yorkers, here are the businesses and services that are up as late as them.

Emergency Dentist NYC
8 Gramercy Park, #1C
On-call 24 hours

Dr. Isaac Datikashvili became a dentist in New York City as a way to slow down from a stint as an EMT in Philadelphia. But he missed the rush that came with emergency care. So in 2008 he brought the two worlds together and started a dentistry practice that lets anyone rush to his Union Square office for fast dental care.

"It's not like a typical dentist office. You never know what's coming in," Datikashvili said.

He says his late-night customers are bicyclists or skateboarders who get into an accident; dentist phobics who wait until pain is too unbearable and need immediate help; and celebrities. He says he's treated famous faces such as actors, musicians and sports athletes, as well as Secret Service agents when the United Nations is in session.

Gagopa Karaoke
28 W. 32nd St.
Mon-Thurs., until 6 a.m. Fri-Sat. until 8 a.m.

When the bartender yells last call, revelers can take the party to Gagopa Karaoke until the sun comes up. The karaoke bar, located in Koreatown, closes at 6 a.m. during the week, and 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The bar charges up to $50 per hour to rent out the karaoke room, depending on the number of guests, with an additional fee per hour for added guests.

Apple Store
767 Fifth Ave.
24 hours

The most inconvenient computer or device malfunctions happen in the middle of the night. But Mac users can trek to midtown to the 24-hour Apple flagship store on Fifth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets. The tech wizzes behind the Genius Bar take reservations all through the night, while customers can shop for a new iPhone or laptop in the early morning hours.

Juvenex Spa
25 W. 32nd St. #5
24 hours

While everyone's resting, you could be getting rest and relaxation at Juvenex Spa, operating 24 hours in Koreatown. Manager Nadia Hubener said the midtown location attracts both New Yorkers and visitors.

"We have tourists, people leaving their evening shifts, Broadway performers, people coming back from clubs late at night and [wanting] to be pampered," said Hubener, who has worked with Juvenex for three years.

Juvenex's prime hours are between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. with another rush between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., Hubener said.

Walk-ins are welcome, with disposable swimwear and footwear available.

Animal Medical Center
510 E. 62nd St.
24 Hours

Devoted pet owners in the city have a veterinarian service that is open all night. The vets at Animal Medical Center on the Upper East Side handle everything from dogs getting hit by cars to diagnostic testing and answering questions when a pet gets into medicine or chocolate.

"It's hard to wait until morning if you think there's something really wrong with your pet," said Richard Goldstein, the chief medical officer.

Animal Medical Center stays open during holidays and was even seeing pets during Superstorm Sandy despite being flooded, Goldstein said.

"People literally waded in and out of our lobby," Goldstein said.

Insomnia Cookies
Six locations in New York City
Deliveries until 3 a.m.

After killing late-night munchies at University of Pennsylvania in 2003 with his cookie delivery service, Seth Berkowitz grew his Insomnia Cookies to 31 locations, with six in New York City, including at NYU and Columbia University.

Though food in the middle of the night is easy to find in New York City, Insomnia Cookies boasts that their baked goods are delivered fresh and warm.

"There are limited sweet options that are available, especially until 3 in the morning," said Renee Sarnecky, a marketing manager for Insomnia Cookies.

Brooklyn Bowl
61 Wythe Avenue
Sat-Thurs., until 1:30 a.m.
Fri.-Sat. until 4 a.m.

Brooklyn Bowl keeps setting the pins well into the night as bands and DJs play in the venue space right next to the lanes.

Brooklyn Bowl closes at 1:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, with last call tied to the end of their musical shows. The kitchen and bar stocked with microbrewed beers are open as late as the bowling alley.

"When we do have late-night shows that take us until 4 a.m., the room is bustling at full pitch," wrote Jesse Schleger, a manager at Brooklyn Bowl, in an email.

Hair Party 24 Hours
76 Madison Ave./ 450 Park Ave.
24 hours

Owner Jihee Kim launched Hair Party 24 Hours from Seoul, Korea, and brought it to the East Side in 2007.

"If you want hair extensions at 10 p.m., you can have them," said manager Leah Yoo.

The all-night salon, with locations at 76 Madison Ave. and 450 Park Ave., also offers spa manicures and pedicures and massages.

Hair Party 24 Hours caters to women unable to get to the salon during normal business hours. Yoo said the salon is popular during Fashion Week.

"We have people who work at the stores [participating in Fashion Week], come in very late for treatment because they need to be at the store again early in the morning," Yoo said.

Crazy Fantasy Tattoo
333 Sixth Ave.
24 hours

When someone gets a late-night flash of inspiration for a tattoo or piercing, they can head to Crazy Fantasy Tattoo on Sixth Avenue. The 24-hour shop is located in the heart of a West Village commercial strip that is bustling at all hours. Like other stores on the retail corridor, Crazy Fantasy doubles as a smoke shop and sex store.

Beach Bum Tanning
108-40 Queens Blvd.
24 hours

When the lights in New York City go out, the tanning beds at Beach Bum in Forest Hills are beaming. Of Beach Bum's 11 New York City locations, the Forest Hills store is the only 24-hour location. The tanning salon also offers airbrushing, sauna and facials.
