Idina Menzel is about to stay planted on Broadway for a little bit longer. On Wednesday, producers of the tree-hugging musical "Redwood" announced that the Syosset-raised star will extend her run with the show through Aug. 17, six weeks longer than originally scheduled.

In "Redwood," Menzel stars as a successful gallery owner who leaves her family and career behind and winds up in Northern California, where she finds comfort in the majestic forests. Prior to hitting Broadway, "Redwood" enjoyed a six-week run at California's La Jolla Playhouse a year ago. The show opened at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre on Feb. 13 to mixed reviews though both Menzel and the show were praised by The New York Times.

"Redwood" also marks a serious branching out for Tony Award winner Menzel. In addition to her starring role, the 53-year-old Broadway veteran helped conceive the project with director Tina Landau and is credited for contributing additional material. The songs are by Broadway newcomer Kate Diaz.

'Glengarry Glen Ross' extended

In other Broadway news, the star-studded revival of David Mamet's drama "Glengarry Glen Ross," which doesn't officially open until March 31, has extended its run for an additional two weeks.

Producers announced on Wednesday that the show, which is in previews, will now close on June 28. The extension comes one day after news that the play, which deals with the cutthroat world of Chicago real estate, broke the Palace Theatre box-office record with ticket sales of $1.9 million for the week ending March 16.

The heavy-hitter cast includes Oscar winner Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, Bill Burr and Michael McKean.
