A moppet, a miser and a man-made monster are among the charming characters coming to Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, which announced its new season over the weekend.
"We are very excited to present our 55th season, a combination of old favorites and shows that are new to Theatre Three," said executive artistic director Jeffrey Sanzel. "It has been over 40 years since we presented 'Annie.' And while 'A Christmas Carol' and 'Godspell' — two favorites — are familiar to our audience, 'Brighton Beach Memoirs,' 'The 39 Steps' and Mel Brooks' 'Young Frankenstein' are appearing for the first time."
The opener "Annie" from Sept. 13 to Oct. 19 is based on the popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie. The Tony Award-winning rags-to-riches musical follows a curly-topped orphan and her dog, Sandy, who are adopted by wealthy Daddy Warbucks.
The holiday perennial "A Christmas Carol" returns for the 40th year (Nov. 8-Dec. 27) with Sanzel reprising his role as the penny-pinching Scrooge who is visited by three ghosts who help him discover the true spirit of Christmas.
Up next will be Neil Simon's semiautobiographical coming-of-age tale "Brighton Beach Memoirs" (Jan. 17-Feb. 8) followed by the rock musical "Godspell" (Feb, 21-March 22).
There's murder afoot in "The 39 Steps" (April 11-May 3, 2026) a farcical spin on the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock spy thriller, in which four actors take on more than 130 parts.
Finishing the season from May 16-June 21, 2026 will be the musical "Young Frankenstein" based on the popular 1974 movie comedy spoofing Mary Shelley's classic novel as well as the Universal monster movies of the 1930s.
Tickets for the new season can be purchased by calling the box office at 631-928-9100 or by going to theatrethree.com.
