BACKGROUND
- Murphy, 68, is running on the Republican, Democratic and Conservative party lines in the general election.
- He has been acting Supreme Court justice in Nassau County since 2015 and was a Nassau County District Court judge from 2010 to 2014.
- Murphy is a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army with 26½ years of active and reserve service. From 1994 to 2015, he was a judge advocate officer, serving as legal adviser to several commanders.
- He was law secretary to County Court Judge Jerald Carter from 1998 through 2009, and law secretary to County Court Judge Jack Mackston in 1997.
- In 1996, Murphy was a court attorney in Nassau County District Court, and from 1994 to 1995 he was a prosecutor in the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency.
- Murphy received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Old Westbury in 1988, and his law degree from the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1993. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1993.
